AfterCare

The Long Island School for the Gifted After School Program is a safe, nurturing, and educational program offered to children, grades K-8. The purpose of our program is to assist working parents by providing students with a well-supervised environment after the conclusion of the school day. Our program is supervised daily by two of our own certified teachers.

An administrator is in the building at all times.

At the end of our school day, the children remaining for after care are greeted by one of our teachers. During the first half hour, children unwind through physical activities, either outdoors (weather permitting) or indoors in our gymnasium. Afterwards, children have snack and homework time. We provide snacks and juice each day. Children begin their homework, having one hour of supervised homework time (or until homework is completed). One-on-one help is provided, if necessary. After homework has been completed, the children are free to play games, draw, do arts & crafts, work on puzzles, etc. For children staying beyond 5:00 p.m., as a group they can either continue to play games in the cafeteria or return to the gymnasium. Upon pick up, parents are informed about their child’s homework, any difficulties the child may be experiencing, and any work that was not completed.
