Classes

Every student at the Long Island School for the Gifted is working one to three years above grade level. Below is a partial listing of subjects offered.

Lower School students (grades K-3) are grouped by ability in reading and math classes. The reading program includes many genres of literature and a phonetic approach. The math program is based on the Singapore Math model. In addition to English Language Arts (which includes writing, grammar, spelling, penmanship), and social studies, the children also take science, art, computer, music, Spanish, physical education and library. Each special subject is taught by a specialist in the field.
