THE GUIDE TO ADMISSIONS FOR

THE LONG ISLAND SCHOOL FOR THE GIFTED

Thank you for your interest in the Long Island School for the Gifted. LISG has proudly been serving children from Nassau County, Suffolk County and Queens for over 40 years! LISG is the only accelerated, gifted, full-day school on Long Island.

To ensure the child is a fit for our school academically, socially, and emotionally, an Admissions Portfolio is created.  

Steps for Admission:

• Families are invited to meet with our Head of School privately for a private tour and/or attend one of several Open Houses.
• The child must have an IQ administered by a licensed psychologist. The tests we accept are the WPPSI, Wechsler Series, or Stanford Binet. If you would like a list of our recommended psychologists, please contact us; however, you may use any licensed psychologist.  Once you receive your child’s IQ report, you will forward it to us at: mterrence@lisg.org  The IQ report will be reviewed by our Admission Team.
• Additionally, we require a copy of the child’s current report cards. If the child has an IEP, a copy is also required.
• The child visits LISG for a full day. This will give the child a sense of what LISG is about, and we will get to know the child. During the visit, the child will take placement assessments in both math and reading. If school is not in session (summer, etc.), the student will come in for assessments only.
• Additional School Records: The parent will be given a Release of Records form to sign, which will allow us to obtain other pertinent school information (health records, recommendations, achievement results, etc.) from the child’s current school.
• Once steps 1-4 are complete and everything aligns, LISG will offer acceptance.  Upon acceptance, the parent may apply.  In addition to the return of the application, the following items are required:

• $100 non-refundable Application Fee.
• $2,500 non-refundable Deposit (the deposit subtracted from the full tuition cost).
• A current picture of the child.
• A copy of the child’s birth certificate.

Prior to the start of the school year, LISG will also require all medical and immunization information.

To provide an appropriate education for gifted children in kindergarten through grade eight, in a nurturing environment where they will be both intellectually challenged and comfortable socially, thereby providing these children with the opportunity to grow and develop to their potential.
